阿尔弗雷德弗里德摄影奖是以奥地利和平主义者阿尔弗雷德赫尔曼弗里德（Alfred Hermann Fried）命名，目的是呈现人类为了追求和平所做的共同努力，发现我们生命中的善与美。阿尔弗雷德赫尔曼弗里德在1911年获得诺贝尔和平奖。摄影捕捉瞬间的感悟，照片反映真实的世界。该奖将授予最能表达人类和平未来的作品。奖项设立者是PHG摄影协会（The Photographische Gesellschaft）以及Edition Lammerhuber。PHG是德语国家中时间最悠久的摄影协会,而Edition Lammerhuber是奥地利的一家出版商，致力于摄影书籍的出版以及科学与艺术类书籍的翻译。

        2019年阿尔弗雷德·弗里德摄影奖入围名单出炉，中国摄影师在列.2019年阿尔弗雷德弗里德摄影奖共收到来自113个国家的17387幅作品，主要有：俄罗斯、中国、印度、德国、美国。截止目前，评委会已经评选出了46个入围名单。

        本赛事由The Photographische Gesellschaft（PHG）以及奥地利出版商Edition Lammerhuber共同主办，赛事协办单位有联合国教科文组织UNESCO、奥地利国会、奥地利国会报告协会、国际新闻学会(IPI)和德国青年摄影奖，同时还受到世界新闻摄影奖（World Press Photo）的大力支持。
